Calcitonin is a hormone produced in the thyroid gland that helps regulate blood calcium. The FDA-Cleared Calcitonin ELISA kit is intended for the quantitative determination of Calcitonin in human serum. This 4½ hour ELISA is designed for in vitro diagnostic use and is used to diagnose cancer of the thyroid and as an adjunct for the monitoring of osteoporosis (bone loss) of a patient. The National Osteoporosis Foundation estimates that 44 million Americans have this disease or have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis.
